Uffie has a new video, kinda yay?

Anyway, mainly, as outlined by Slate, there has been a rash of songs ripping off (what they call) pitchfork favourites, all written by ‘Dr Luke’ - some Scandinavian asshat.

Some shitty sub-Uffie ‘rapper’ girl has totally ripped off Pop the Glock

Tavik Swimwear Summer 2010 Collection | Trend.Land
I’m not sure I agree with the assessment of it being totally hair metal inspired (in that, I don’t agree with it at all); but, there are some great, overheated, washed-out, dripping in Americana photos in TAVIK Swimwear’s 2010 photos.

Man. Like. Ugghhh.

It is like Tulsa but alive, modern and moving.

I am very susceptible to advertising.

Sometime back in like 1992, before Bill was inaugurated on MTV (but not before Bill was on MTV. He had been on before. And, just, goddam, how cool is it that important shit went down on M-fucking-TV?)

Bill chose that Fleetwood Mac song as his campaign trail song…

(also, did Obama have a song? I remember Kerry had Beautiful Day by U2. Al Gore had Fuck the Pain Away by Peaches. I don’t recall Obama having one.)

The crowds loved it. Every fucking Boomer who was like thirty-something-ish in the early nineties was all like ‘man, this guy, he is like me, he gets me, this is my youth, this is my time, man.’

In 2008 they still loved it.

I always forget which Fleetwood Mac song Clinton used. For some reason I can only ever remember it as being ‘Little Lies’. But, how rad would it have been if Bill had actually used Little Lies as his song?

Maybe not in ’92. But it could’ve so worked in ’96. I would’ve been feeling it (though, I kinda couldn’t vote back then. My first vote was long promised to Mr. 2008, like Kelly to Zack).

Grotesquely obsessed with reliving my childhood.  Jennifer Paige knows whats up.

I don’t think I have ever actually lived. I think my whole life I have just relived something else. Even when things are too recent to be relived. In 1999 I was already reminding everyone how great the ‘90s were. I think I am gonna play it different and get ahead of the curve now, reminisce about the future… ‘I wish I was still 25. 2013 was like the best year. Things were so simple then, and made sense. Shit is lame now.’.

Taliban fighter laying down his weapons, surrendering to the government.
I love that wherever you travel in the world, you always see someone in a really garish flag and eagle outfit.
Thanks to globalisation, any crappy clothing made in China will eventually end up everywhere - even when so horrendously Wal Mart.

"Tom Scocca: “No change was more momentous and utopian than that men could choose men for love objects, and women choose women, to remake the sexual household.” In the 20th century, he says. No change more momentous.

Tom Scocca: * Rise and fall of Communism and Fascism
Tom Scocca: * Jet travel
Tom Scocca: * Consumer capitalism
Tom Scocca: * Widespread use of automobiles
Tom Scocca: * Computing and the Internet

The Shadow Editors: Reading Mark Greif’s Recent ‘N+1′ Piece In Real Time | The Awl

New required reading.

I do kinda agree. I don’t get the whole gay marriage thing. I absolutely don’t care about the ability to marry or not. It is a stupid and kinda outmoded idea, as Mark Greif puts very well.

But man, as Tom Scocca very adeptly does here, is it a stupid ass essay.

As one of the commenters said

N + 1….now as formulaic as The Economist.’

"A dream
Blonde hair. Wide smile. Blue eyes. On the bus. Laughs with friends. I look sideways. Beautiful. Friends notice. She stares. I don’t look away. (Why? Shut up. It’s a dream). Do I know you from somewhere? I don’t know. My friends turn. Talk. Explain. Yeah, he’s strange. She smiles. She sits next to me. Puts her arm around. You won’t mind if I do this then? Not at all.

Off the bus. Silence. I frown. She turns. Accusing. So what do we do now. I despair. I don’t know. I look away. I like books, films, galleries, concerts… How fake. Gleam in her eye. On phone. I wait. Comes back. You like concerts? Yeah. Turns. Walks away. How d’you feel about Koko? Yes. YES! To see Slowdive? Turns back and smiles.

Dark. Music washes around. She leans on me. My arms around her. She turns. We kiss. Feels like honey and marzipan. Tastes like heaven."
